What to Prepare

Please prepare a roughly one-minute monologue or story that is upbeat/comedic. This one-minute speech could be from a book, movie, play, or anything you want. It can also be a personal story or one you’ve made up. We are Just looking for energy, personality, and performance ability. This should be prepared, so aim to be memorized or very familiar with your piece but if you need to read your lines while you're auditioning, go for it!

Each day after the audition, we will have a 20-minute break to decide who will be called back. Call backs will consist of some scene readings from the play, which actors will have 10 minutes to review beforehand.

*Please note that depending on the audition turn out, it is unfortunately not guaranteed that every auditionee will be called back or cast. Regardless, you will hear from us Sunday evening.

About the Play

This upbeat, comedic children’s play by Brent Alles showcases a range of interesting characters inspired by the Greek gods, as they compete in a series of challenges to score a spot in the coveted pantheon - the group that rules upon Mount Olympus. Eccentric personalities and family dynamics make an exciting journey for each of these characters throughout the play.

Tentative Schedule

Rehearsals are tentatively planned for Tuesday-Thursday evenings February 18-March 13. Then rehearsals will increase to Monday-Thursday March 17-April 17 with a break for spring break April 4-13 (tentative brush-up rehearsals that week).

Audition FAQS

Are there backstage opportunities?

What Should I Wear to the Audition?

Most often, yes! If you'd like to get involved backstage, please contact Lowell Arts (theatre@lowellartsmi.org).

Wear something presentable and comfortable. You should be able to move comfortably in your clothes, though athletic wear is not necessary. Show us your sense of style but be sure to look neat and clean.

Audition Tips

It’s okay to be nervous!

Just about everyone is nervous. Do your best to smile and have a good time. Take a deep breath and slow yourself down - trying to rush through the words will often lead to mistakes!

Be on time.

We want to know that you’re punctual and reliable. A good rule to live by: if you’re 5 minutes early, you’re on time. If you’re “on time,” you’re late.

Research.

Find out what you can about the play and the characters. Read a summary of the play before the audition.

Be kind to everyone and smile.

Remember that your audition is like an interview, and it begins the moment you walk in the door.
